After intensive negotiations with a well-known tech partner (which we’re currently unable to name due to multiple NDAs) we’re delighted to announce a new name and a new era in making for our members
South London MetaSpace
From midday today all making activities will become virtual. This has huge and exciting benefits for all of us:
-
make from home (MFH®) saving commuting time and cutting down harmful ‘maker miles’ significantly
-
it’s eco friendly – Meta-making using Meta_ply® and Meta_L® and e-wool® is a zero waste activity, and promises consistent results every time…and the good news is our new partners have promised to supply these e-materials with a zero cost increase for us, and have ‘no current plans’ to change this*
-
collaborate easily on projects with (subscribed) makers around the world*
-
access to everything you make – from anywhere!* Cloud-based making couldn’t be easier
-
maintain shared ownership of all your creations – with commission for any items sold*
-
tools that always work, are clean and no need for inductions* – although we might keep waitlists for old times sake
-
never misplace a tool again (upcoming feature not yet available)*
We’ll be celebrating this from midday today with a Zoom-B-Q where we’ll be cooking up some meta-wurst (e-vegan option available)…link to follow at the last minute
Why?
Nearly eight years ago SLMS set out to solve the challenges of urban makers: “lowering the barriers to making” by having a centralised workshop where shared resources, materials and space to make are available 24/7; avoiding the need for everyone to own their own kit. We always knew we could go further, and that what we were doing was not forward-looking enough…we are now delighted to remove the final barrier: the need to maintain physical workshops full of archaic ‘physical things’
Our message: “Hey 21st Century, sorry we’re a little late”
That recurring asterisk…
