Hey guys. I am right now looking at doing some handheld only tools woodworking courses and they are all really expensive so I wanted to ask if there is anyone planning to put out any courses or is available for hire to teach me as a beginner.
I became a member last year and apart from the basic induction. I havent come in at all. I have been told that courses may start soon which I am patiently waiting for
But I just wanted to make sure they will definitely be starting soon. I mean If not, its totally fine.
I want to know, as if there are no courses planned then I could do a course with another woodworking place and once I feel I am ready to tackle projects alone then I can join the makerspace again
And if there are any courses planned then ofcourse I would rather want to do them here at the makerspace workshop then anywhere else
Let me know guys. And hopefully this hasnt come across as me ranting. Apologies if it did. Thanks guys
I am away in France fir the next 10 days
The first course I am planning will be for beginners, hand tools only
It is going to consist of four basic joints , you will learn to use marking gauges, saws both western and Japanese, chisels and planes with a shooting board.
Then we will move onto a cross halving
Then a bridle joint
Followed by a mitred half lap
Finished with a half dove tail
I have made the first ´try out’ and will be doing it again in France to see how long it takes.
Oh thats great. Cant wait. Im curious. And this might be alot to ask for. Are you (or anyone) planning to do any project making courses e.g. making a table/chair etc. I mean I know I would have to be more experienced for these courses so I probably couldnt do them now but are there any courses like this planned in future
I am doing hand sharpening evenings, I am also planning to do a basic hand planing, dimensioning, jointing lesson. I am open to ideas if there is a specific project that would be of interest.
A shaker side table is a good project, for example.
I quite like the idea of building a solid foundation. I guess that would it alot easier when I do actually start project making. Whivh evenings/timings are you running/planning to run these lessons?
And regarding projects. I dont really have a specific project I am looking to build, a shaker side table does look a fun project to start with though
Hi,
I have opened another thread for next week’s sharpening evening. It’s the second session.
If you reply there you should hopefully see the other people who are interested.
You can either discuss amongst yourselves when is convenient or we can keep it at Wednesday evening at seven.
Thanks
Hey @lewisss. You said you might be starting the courses near the end of June (its ok if you arent) but just if you are, I just wanted to ask theres any update on when it might be starting. Thanks
