Asking for permission to edit overlapping booking entries

Hi. I know that the issue of overlapping calendar entries has been raised before, but not resolved.
If Discourse cannot prevent overlapping entries, we have to do it manually.

So, take tonight (13th July 2022) for example.
There are 2 bookings overlapping.
Some rooms and tools have been booked in the one entry, but not the other.
There is a direct clash for the clean room table.

My proposal:
Anyone who notices an overlap WITHOUT a clash should edit one or both entries so that they don’t overlap.
This involves the application of Advanced Common Sense and a caring and careful approach to not removing a machine or space booking.
They should do this even if they are not the host, to minimise how long the overlap exists.
They should then message the hosts and explain what was done and why.

If there is a clash, then I think that the overlap should be resolved, the clash should be noted for the specific tool, and the clashing people need to sort it out for themselves.

If there are no objections and sufficient people in favour, then I will start doing this when I notice overlaps and have time to resolve them.

Thoughts?

When I see it, I edit it right away. I am supportive of everyone doing it should they be confident doing so.

I went ahead and commented and tagged people who booked over the Laser induction booking, then removed the time spec(of the second overlapping booking) so noone else makes the same mistake.

Presumably this can simply be done on a timestamp basis with the later entry being default shortened and the offender messaged?

Consistent and fair course of action for all clashes then?
