Call for volunteers - chair triage

Dermot collected a van-load of chairs from a construction site.
Since we had a tight deadline, we didn’t have to time to assess our needs before collection.
This means that we probably have more chairs than we need.

Since I am not at the space as often as I would like, I need some help.

Please can one or more volunteers do the following:
If someone can establish the process, then volunteers can just process a few chairs at a time into each stack, rather than having to take on the whole project.

  1. Examine each chair
  2. If it is broken, move it out to next to the storage units
  3. If it is unbroken, but appears VERY difficult to clean, put it in a stack labelled “Review” in the woodshop
  4. If it is unbroken and only moderately dirty, put it in a stack labelled “To be cleaned” in the woodshop
  5. If clean, put it in a stack labelled “Ready”, with 16 left in the Clean room, and the rest in the woodshop

I’m back from Edinburgh on Fri, so I’ll check in on the process then.

Thanks, thanks, thanks.

I should be in the space tomorrow and will have a look.

We can have an ad hoc angle grinder induction on monday, we’ll have a couple chairs for practice😁

I guess I should have considered that this is a makerspace.

Let’s clarify for this purpose that broken means “broken beyond reasonable repair” - I was mainly thinking of the plastic body rather than the legs!

What happened to the black chairs that were piled up at the entrance? I’m confused.

Also, can they been piled up in arch 2 this time ? There is already not much space in arch 1

I sorted through them a bit. I put a few chairs out by the containers that are damaged and presumed difficult to clean (with paint). A couple had bent legs that would prevent them stacking, maybe it would affect their integrity to bend them back again. I will be bringing in a jetwash to attempt to clean the good ones. The rest, I tightened up the screws, and used the screws from a broken one to replace the screws missing from some good ones. If nobody else will sort them, I might as well.

I’m in soon again so no big deal, the ones by the containers are not going anywhere, there are no extras in arch 1. I didn’t find this topic and follow exactly what it said, but eh, it’s a start, I’ll do the things when I come back in.
