Category Clean Up

Do we need/can we delete:

  • Blog
  • Event Plugin Test
  • Growth Working Group
  • Tool Booking - unused/old

Members:

  • Should ‘GLA Budget’ be moved to Admin/be removed or hidden (last post in 2016)
  • Should ‘Governance’ be moved to Admin

Discussion:

  • Arch2 & Construction - merged into Construction - as Arch2 seems to be talking about BAU stuff (i class the metal move as BAU, in the same way as Textiles move is/was)
  • Discourse Meta - is this needed and if so, should it be private as it’s inner workings specific
  • New Machines (Private) - rename to New Machines, move to Admin
  • Rename Private to Discussions (Private)
  • I don’t think ‘Diversity’ is needed, apart from one post recently (which can be moved to discussions) the last time it was used was 2018

Introductions

  • Welcome Team should have a look to have a clean up so new members and wanna-be members know what to do.
  • I don’t think Welcome sub category is needed - only contains one pinned topic, which can be moved to introductions

Admin

  • Break out Induction Sessions and Induction Waiting Lists into it’s own Category (with them as sub Category) called ‘Inductions’
  • set Admin to members only
  • Set Membership and Storage to members only

Members

  • Merge with Discussions

Events

  • Create two categories - Public Events and Private Events

New: Inductions

  • Move Induction Sessions and Induction Waiting Lists sub categories here
  • Make the inductions easier to find - can be linked to easily (for example the new side bar)

New: Documents

  • Move Risk Assessments, Tools, Rules and How To into this Category so they are all in one place in the back end
  • Create ‘Getting Started’ sub category - this is public and contains the steps for interested none members
  • Set How-to to Members only
  • Currently non-members/non-signed in can view Tools and Rules - should Rules be Members Only?
  • create ‘Tech Documents’ a private category only accessible by Tech roles to keep all documentation in one place and easy to find.

@roles

  • Rename to - Techs (to better describe the category), each category is only accessible/viewable by the relevant Tech area

  • Create a new Category called ‘Announcements’ - which only members can see, but only techs/directors/mods can post in - intended to make Space related announcements.

  • Directors, Marketing, Systems (merging with existing System category), Welcome sub categories - move to Admin category

  • Delete ‘Welding working group’,‘Events Private’, ‘Marketing Private’ - never used

  • ‘Staff’ Category - is it needed? contains Terms of Service, Guidelines and Privacy Policy - which can be moved to a Documents category, rest of category seems out of date/unused.

  • ‘Forepeople’ category - is it needed? Can i be deleted? It’s not been used in years

  • Events - ‘Poster Template’ moved to Tech Documents, ‘Events’ category deleted

  • Merge duplicate Tech-only and non-tech-only categories for each tech area into the tech-only category (most non-tech-only conversations happen in the Discussions area - having separate areas causing confusion on where to find/post information). Simplify name of category down to tech area
    – ‘Wood Technicians’ and ‘Wood Technicians Private’ merge into ‘Wood’
    – ‘Textiles Technicians’ - renamed to ‘Textiles’
    – ‘Electronics Technicians’ - renames to ‘Electronics’
    – ‘Laser Techs’ and ‘Lasertechs Private’ merge into ‘Laser’
    – ‘Metaltechs’ and ‘Metaltechs private channel’ merge into ‘Metal’
    – ‘CNC working group discussion’ renamed to ‘CnC’
    – ‘3D Printer Techs’ renamed to ‘3D Printers’
