Does anyone have a Mac with a FireWire port?

Morning all!

I was wondering if anyone (or that space) has a Mac with a FireWire port I could use for an hour or so please? I just need to configure a piece of hardware.

Or actually if anyone has the FireWire to thunderbolt adapter that would also work.

Thankyou!

Gawain

I may be able to help. What is it you’re working on?

Thanks Will. I have an RME Fireface 400 that I need to configure as an Adat converter (8 channel A/D and D/A).

So will need to download the driver and RME’s totalmix software and configure the hardware. It will then remember the settings and I can use it standalone.

I have to check but I might have a laptop in storage, otherwise, I think I have a windows desktop with it.

Adapters do not exist for firewires, if you have a desktop pc you can use a PCIe card

I have a female FireWire 800 to male thunderbolt 2 connector. Let’s try that first. If it doesn’t work, I have a 2007 MacBook Pro with both 400 and 800 connections.

Thanks @will-hay , that’s great. My stepson has a computer with a thunderbolt 2 port so if I could either borrow the adaptor, or do the work on your machine at the space that would be amazing. Do you have a Firewire 800-400 lead?

@emuboy of course you do! A PC with firewire, a rare beast indeed! That would also work well.

Luckily RME are amazing with drivers (maintaining them and supporting old operating systems) so I am confident on that side. I use one of their newer cards with my PC laptop (USB) and want to use this one expand my ins and outs.

Appreciate it!

I’d be happier to meet in the space to do it. I always have plenty to do in there. I’ll be in sometime next week during the day.
