Double sided tape on perspex

Hi, has anyone experimented with applying double sided tape to perspex before cutting as a way of fixing the result to a surface? I want to cut out letters and stick them to a wall as signage.

I would guess the tape would get melted and messy - not good in many ways.

Any thoughts are much appreciated :slightly_smiling_face:

Hey Liam!

Id be very carful with cutting DS tapes, assuming you’re talking about laser cutting. Depending on the type of tape it can contain PVC, PU foam and other nasty unfriendly laser substances. It will also melt under the laser and leave a sticky residue on your cutting piece.

In my experience with sign making, as long as you don’t use thick perspex a few strips of a good quality 3M/tessa VHB or PSA tape will suffice. But theres many many factors to be considered dependant on your application.

Happy to continue chatting in person as its a fascinating and in depth topic!

Ok this is what I was suspecting, thanks for the advice.

I’ll be fitting 5mm thick letters to a painted metal surface externally, but the letters will only be approximately 100mm so I think the tape route you suggest works fine.

Thanks for the tips!

Ahh yes some tape will be sufficient then. If you get some VHB tape with the foam backing it’ll look nice, make the letters float off the base ever so slightly. And it’s bloody strong!

You’re welcome
