Hard to see how everyone can get 7 minutes to talk? That’s max of 8 speakers per hour…anyone know any more?

I guess there won’t be many spaces?

Do we have SLMS t-shirts? Maybe we can use the event for visibility

I’d gladly be a walking billboard for SLMS at the event if we have any XL branded shirts going.

Normally not everyone does talk at these events even if it asks you to prepare slides.

Lots on interesting stuff at the first conference sponsored by Hackaday. The ingenuity of some makers is remarkable. The format was that each attendee (about 150) could make a 7 minute presentation about whatever they liked. This included:

  • An old Nintendo light “gun” modified to fire visible laser “ray” and trigger a remote laser “explosion” on a screen.
  • Bike-mounted LED indicators using RasPi and triangular array of LED’s. Much more practical than it sounds.
  • Hilarious “speak your weight” scale, returning the result of the animal that weighs the same as you (funnier than it sounds)
  • Using Python code in very small platforms
  • Shoe inserts that measure pressure for rehab of brain injuries
  • How to make and buy cider
  • The Beeline bike direction device, but focusing on what problems emerge when customers return defective goods - fascinating.
  • “Why we should teach computers to lie” in IoT applications. Much more interesting than it sounds)

The day was sponsored by RS Components, who promoted their free CAD/circuit design applications among other things.
