Hello I'm Ian G

I have lived in South London for many years and am really glad to finally be getting the chance to join this community! I’ll def be along for the open evening next week.

I am a software developer by profession. About 10 years ago (around when the Raspberry Pi appeared on the scene funnily enough) i started getting into messing around with physical computing projects and it reawakened the enthusiasm I had as a kid for electronics and making stuff. So since then I’ve been hacking on various smart home and other random projects inspired by the maker community in my spare time. I’m also a musician and making sounds and making things that make sounds is another fascination of mine that I like to indulge (ok maybe that’s not going to make me popular!) I don’t own a 3d printer yet and I’m into the idea of learning to make nicer enclosures for my projects generally.

And just be great to see what other people are doing and get inspired and hang out somewhere that isn’t my back room .

Hi Ian,

sounds you’ll fit right in!

Always a good start! Also, if you’re available tonight, you could drop by for Electronics Night (7.30pm - 11pm). It’s open to members and non-members alike. No projects needed, just come and hang out. Any member will be happy to show you the Makerspace.

See you soon,
Mark

O great. Thanks Mark. That is good to know about.

Ian

Hi Ian,

Welcome to the space. I’ve recently been learning about Arduino and have just bought my first ESP32 D1 Mini; I feel that home automation is a rabbit hole I may be about to fall into…

I think there are quite a few musicians in the space too.
