Hi everyone :wave:

I recently signed up as a member. I’ve been wanting to join for ages, having first spotted the workshop on my way to Canopy (regular visitor there…)

I’m a software engineer but in the last few years have been revisiting my electronics roots. Mostly I’ve been making DIY eurorack synth kits from Thonk but have another project on the back burner which I’m keen to return to, a Lixie clock (LED edgelit acrylic digits giving a Nixie tube effect). I need to learn how to etch acrylic on a laser cutter to continue with it!

Looking forward to dropping in soon and meeting some of you.

Welcome to the space Paul. As you may know, there is usually an electronics night on Thursdays which would be a good place to start. There are several eurorack enthusiasts and other DIY music makers among our members.

Contact the lasertechs re. an induction on the lasercutter.

Hi Paul, and welcome!

I am one of the laser techs running inductions, and I have experience with producing edge lit acrylic pieces.
To join the inductions queue:

  1. Go to https://discourse.southlondonmakerspace.org/t/laser-cutter-inductions-refresher-sessions/19020
  2. Press the Edit button (will appear at the bottom right of the first post)
  3. Add your Discourse username under TracyD
  4. Look out for the announcement of the next laser induction
