Help cutting some wood to size

Hi there @Wood-planer-users / @Wood-tablesaw-users,

I want to start work on an electric guitar body🎉

It’s going be made of an elaborate sandwich of different types of wood.

I have the wood but it is currently the wrong size.

The details are:

2x ash 485mm X 175mn X 45mm which need to be 34mm thick

4 X maple which are roughly the 450mm X 175mm X 7-9mm which need to be 5mm thick

1x walnut which needs to be a strip of 10mm X 44mm 410mm

Im not inducted on the machines as yet.

Would anyone who can use the table saw/bandsaw/planer be interested in giving me a hand getting this wood cut to size at some point over the next week or so🙏

I would be forever grateful and can supply beer, cake or anything else in return😁

I can’t use the planer but can help with the table saw. What are the dimensions of the walnut?

I’ll be around most of the day tomorrow if you have the time?

Ok great, Im coming in to help out Sean with the concreting ill bring the wood with me, if we can get anything done that would be fantastic!

Thanks so much Pedro :tada:

On reflection, if you need the walnut to be planed to size, then maybe best to hold off until that’s done?

Im not 100% what the best order to do everything in is. Ill bring the wood in anyway, maybe there will be a planer person in who might be able to help

I’ll be around a fair chunk of tomorrow and can use the planer. It requires somebody with a key though so depends on whether a key-holder is about. Not sure how to do the 5mm pieces, I think you’d need to attach it to something else to send it through the planer as I believe it’s too thin.

Ok, brilliant!

I did wander about the thickness of the maple “tops”, they are going to get glued to the ash maybe I can come up with some way to flatten one side, do the glue up and then put them through the planer.

This is great, Ill bring the wood in tomorrow, and see what we can do, if we just get the ash cut to size that would be a win :tada:

I think you can use double sided tape or something to attach it to a thicker piece (spare ply is good) then send it though the planer. Or just grab a hand plane and embrace the zen

Thanks @msparker for helping out with the planer today!

Super excited about the project :tada:
