Hi folks, I'm Kate

I’m a milliner/project manager/yachtsperson

I love making things, but sometimes it feels a bit more like I’m really good at acquiring things that “might come in useful” or “wow! I could make something from this!” - this could be driftwood, beads, feathers, the letters off old keyboards, fabrics, leather, buttons, string, old pieces of organ pipe - perhaps you get the picture?

I came along to last night’s crafting evening and it was really lovely meeting a bunch of other creative folk and I’d love to become a member.

Projects I’m interested in are initially more sewing based - I’ve had the ingredients for a couple of corsets for years and I would love to move forward with them, but I would also like to:

Learn how to do laser cutting
Woodwork: Turn an old oak tabletop into a lid for the wooden ammo box I have as a coffee table
Metalwork: Learn how to shape & solder? weld? wire into sculpted forms to make a display stand for some of my driftwood.

I’ve done a bunch of silversmithing in the past too - I don’t know if jewellery making if something that other maker folks might be interested in going forward?

I saw someone else had included pronouns in their entry, and that seemed like a nice thing to normalise, so I go by she/they.

Take care
Kate x

i’ve seen silver work and other creative things involving saws and coins going on at the space/events, so i’m sure someone else will share your enthusiasm for jewelry.

welcome !
