Hi I'm Maz

Hi all, I love to make things in general, I’ve done spoon carving, knitting, at one point I used a bunch of old pallets and some IKEA shelves to make a good table top, I make clothes, I’ve restored a wood plane, I am currently making an umbrella, I have made my own curtains ages ago, I like building PCs. I also like embroidery and dyeing. My pronouns are he/they incase anyone wasn’t sure.

Hi Maz,

Welcome! I love the way you casually tossed in ‘making an umbrella’ – you’ve got to tell us more about that

I believe you’ve been offered a membership, but not yet joined up? @welcome will guide you through the process if you need more info, want to come and visit etc. just tag them if you need to

I’m sure i’ve got a pic saved somewhere of when I was oiling the linen, but I basically got a parasol kit from https://www.venacavadesign.co.uk/product.php/69/48/parasol_frame_skeleton_kit because I wanted to see if I could make an oilcloth umbrella, I feel it’ll be too heavy for most people to carry. I also stained the linen myself using a mixture of iron oxide and milkpaint as it felt apt for an old style waterproof. I’ve left a cutoff of the oilcloth on my washing line for a while now, and it’s still waterproof which makes me confident the cloth dried correctly

I also like to cannibalise broken umbrellas for the fabric, I feel that the waterproof cheap plastic will come in use at one point, I did use a yellow broken umbrella to make an outdoor cushion which my cat likes to sit on in the summer.
