Laser engrave on 3dprinted PLA

Hi guys,

Has anyone tried to engrave a 3dprinted PLA object on our lasercut machine? If not, do you (@lasertechs) think there is any issue/concern in testing it?

Thanks,
Federico

Hi Frederico,

Laser engraving PLA shouldn’t be a problem as far as I’m aware however, you may have a problem with the part melting if you are looking for more than a surface marking.
Obviously other plastics may be a no go eg. ABS.

Hi Louis,

It will be PLA only and just branding, so 1mm of engraving max.

I’ll make few tests…

Thanks,
Federico

Keep it fast, keep it low.

It would take nothing for the laser to go through

Hi guys,

I did some tests yesterday on PLA engraving and i saved the settings on Ruby if anybody needs them.
Engraving PLA is tougher that I thought i used higher settings that wood engraving but the results are really good.

Thanks
Federico

Can you share some pictures with us please? :grimacing:

Here!

This is 1.5 cm engrave ( 1mm deep)

Printing the component with the mark would not have the same quality.

Looks great! Good work - thanks for sharing!

That for your camera housing?

The engrave? No just testing. The PLA piece was, but it’s an old test. I’m printing the new pieces these days.

Thanks,
Federico
