Moving 'How To' section to the Top?!

Hi all,

We have gotten a lot of feedback from new members about not being able to find things and how to use the space and tools. To mitigate this I want to try moving the ‘How To’ section of Discourse to the top and see how that goes, especially as we have a big influx of new members post-covid.

Let me know if you hate this - but right now new members are struggling to get a handle on things and we need to change something to make this better…

Thanks!!

It’s a good idea to have it prominent

Probably not at the top though?

Discourse is a discussion forum open to all, so I guess ‘discussion’ is the natural first topic, but ‘how to’ could be next?

‘how to’ is very functional/nuts&bolts fixed stuff, rather than human, dynamic and welcoming, which is another reason for it not being top?

Cool - lets try it 2nd from the top.

I am still working on getting the most important pages pinned in the right order so bear with me on that…

Suggest reviewing “Instructions for using and maintaining the space”

Perhaps something like “Loads of useful guides on everything from xxxx to xxxxx. A must read for new members!”

I think it would actually be good to have at the top. I guess most people have their feed on latest so they see the discussion topics first anyway as they come up.

Yes, Discourse is a discussion forum but we are also using it as the main and pretty much only source of information for all of our admin topics and helping people use the space such as inductions, bookings, wiki style information like the how too’s and others.

I am saying this with new members in mind who find it hard to navigate discourse and accessing information. The discussions are there and will pop up in the latest feed anyway so stay on the top. The other information gets slowly buried if it’s not pushed to the top.
