I’m not sure how/why this happened, but…
On Wednesday 13 July several people arrived for an Open Evening.
However, there was no open evening listed on the calendar.
Brian showed people around. However, if he hadn’t been there, there was no-one else who could have done it.
Also, it clashed a bit with the Laser Induction (we coped, but not ideal).
What were they responding to? Like where did they read it was an open night? Was it our messaging problem? Or did they read wrong?
I think Brian was there for the open evening as he communicated there is one with people asking for it?
Brian was certain that there was an open evening.
He seemed to be anticipating people attending.
I didn’t get a chance to ask them how they found out about the evening.
Surely an Open Evening has to be displayed on our calendar in 2 versions - public (green dot) and a standard booking page (red dot) with an assigned host?

im assuminmg that it was still every two weeks,( although it did get moved forward last month to a week ahead which did confuse me a bit ) it was no problem showing anyone around im only to happy to help where I can .Keep well . Brian D=
Yeah… I’m gonna have a think and come back to the group with a low effort solution to improve the internal and external communications of open evenings.
Thanks Brian for stepping up to help this week! Hopefully the next open evening will be slightly less adhoc!
To be fair I saw a message from Brian in a public post to non members confirming that there was indeed an open evening planned, which I presume meant he was willing to do the showing around, even though it wasn’t confirmed in the calendar
Also, the website does mention “our open evenings are usually on alternate Wednesdays from 7:00pm , (but check our calendar before heading over)”
So I suspect it was a case of people assuming that it was that Wednesday, not checking for the event, and seeing Brian’s message
But we can definitely do better to make it clear to current members who want to use the space, as well as prospective members!

Hi all, I was one of the newbies who benefit greatly from Brian’s tour! I found out about the space via a friend who is a member who brought me as a guest on the Monday. When here on the Monday, he asked those about if the open evening was on that week and I think the uncertainty lead to the conclusion of “probably but just turn up and see who’s there!” I would add that he intended to be there too, had he not fallen unwell, so we would have done something else had it not been on. - but fortunately Brian showed us around! Thank you, biscuits incoming! - looking forward to meeting you all properly in time, and when I’m more familiar with the existing systems I’d be happy to come up with ideas about better communications on this topic, my day job is as a production manager so should have some ideas! Also happy to host open evenings in time. - all the best, Tom
