Clearing out a filing cabinet, I want to get some data from a load of old IDE hard drives (nope, no old bitcoin wallet on there unfortunately). I have an IDE to USB cable but no power for the drives. Is there a PC power supply somewhere in the space with a 4 pin 12.5V connector for old hard drives?
If you can’t find an old PSU, I have a SATA to Molex cable you can use. This should allow a newer PSU to be used.
Thanks Stu. I think I have one of those as well. So any kind of PC PSU should work.
Cool if you can’t find a PSU I have a powered external SATA drive reader. So you could borrow that just for the power side and use your own reader
Sounds great! Would you be able to drop it off at the space? Or I could pick it up from you.
Apologies, just back at home.
I’ve dug out the powered reader, can’t find the SATA to molex adaptor though, so hopefully yours will work (male SATA connector, see picture).
I can drop it off at the space tomorrow.
Brilliant, thanks!
If you still need a 4 pin molex for PATA, I can drop one in tomorrow evening. Inform me if you do otherwise I don’t plan to come in (but I’m only 10 mins away).
Brilliant, thanks Daniel! If you could drop it off when you’re next in that would be great. Don’t come in on my account though, I won’t be able to make it in today.
I’ve dropped of the SATA reader in the space, I wasn’t sure where to put it so I put it in the USB draw near the electronics desks and 3D printers If I could have it back early September that would be great. Cheers, Stu
Brilliant, I will pick it up this week and get it back to you soon.
