Sad news about member Mark Broughton (TekMark)

We were contacted this week by a friend of Marks to let us know that he’d died

I spoke to his sister Toddy yesterday and she told me he died at home earlier in January from a heart attack. As his sole next of kin she’s dealing with everything right now so would rather not be contacted directly by lots of people she doesn’t know, so I told her I am more than happy to forward messages to her

There isn’t going to be a funeral, but Mark will be cremated, and friends of his will be able to take some of his ashes if they want to pay tribute or remembrance to him in their own way

Mark (like many avid makers) was a bit of a collector/hoarder and this has left Toddy and some of Mark’s friends with a big challenge of sorting out the contents of his flat and 2 storage units which contain hundreds of projects, tools, parts, electronic gear and audio and lighting equipment

Toddy needs to raise some funds to wind up Mark’s affairs so could do with help identifying higher value items to sell and also donations for gear if members want stuff for themselves or Makerspace, and I understand there’s an offer of a 3d Printer for SLMS. I think we can be useful to Toddy by using our collective knowledge to identify equipment if she uploads photos (it may also be that some members are happy to visit and help sort though Mark’s collection?)

We will start another thread for helping sort the gear and keep this one for anyone who wants to share thoughts and memories of Mark

DM me if you want to send a private message or condolences to Toddy

Every time we spoke he spoke about his sister, lovely man, full of enthusiasm and always had time for a cup of tea!

never met the man, but sad news nonetheless.

I’d be happy to buy some tools to help her raise money. Lemme know when she provides photos.

Spoke to Toddy, she’s going to send some images, but would really appreciate it if someone (with a good eye for electronics/computer/sound gear would go and have a walk round of his flat in Streatham to get a feel of what should be done with Mark’s trove. This would need to be daytime, over next few days (before Monday)

Edit: separate thread for identifying and sorting Mark’s gear https://discourse.southlondonmakerspace.org/t/sorting-out-tekmarks-gear/19964?u=dermot
