Screws into end grain tip

Came across a tip on a YouTube channel the other day that I thought might be useful to others.

The vlogger was using some bed hardware that needed to be attached with screws into the end grain of a long board which would make up the side of the bed base.

Because of the weakness of screwing into end grain, she drilled a hole across the end of the board a suitable distance away from the end based on the screws she was using and glued an appropriately sized piece of dowel into the drilled hole.

When the hardware was screwed in, the screw thread had something to bite into and grip the dowel going across the grain. Much more secure that going only into end grain.

I’ll certainly remember that for any projects I might have in the future- struck me as being quite useful.
