Unseasoned Wood Available

I’ve made a tree surgeon friend, who is taking down three trees in early/mid Jan:

Acacia (approx 50cm across)
Olive (30cm)
Bay (20cm)*

If any woodworkers, turners, or Twin Peaks Log Lady cosplayers want some stock, let me know, and we can co-ordinate a specific order nearer the time, such as first week of Jan. He’ll charge £20 total to deliver to the space as it’s out the way, but free otherwise.

*I might have swapped the olive and bay dimensions, one is approx 20cm and the other is 30cm.

I am very excited about turning those, especially olive wood. Put me down for a load of those, happy to pay whenever you need me to.

Will get some wax for sealing ends, would be curious if it can be dried in the big oven we have.

Also happy to take some of this and split the delivery fee

Hi Ben,

I was literally about to message you about this to see if it is still a goer?

What’s the situation? I am definitely interested and have a car so can come and collect some quantity within reason or split delivery cost etc?

I think I’m going to try to make a chess set so could need quite a bit but complete novice so will probably practice on some scraps before using the Olive wood which I think sounds good?

Thanks, Steve

Hey Steve,

I believe it’s still a goer, yeah. He’s said he’s happy to deliver to the space, so will check that and I can obv be there to collect/store and label it up for ppl. Will check in dates with him and let ppl know.

Just good to know quantities if you know roughly how much you want/need?
Are you using olive for the ‘whites’ so want some acacia for the ‘blacks’?

Cheers

Hi Ben,

Yeah, hadn’t thought of that, was going to stain the black pieces but Olive for white pieces and Acacia for black pieces sounds like a great idea… I was thinking maybe of ebonising the black pieces but much better if wood is already darker and then maybe no need for them to be fully black as such as long as plenty of contrast, nice idea

I’ll take what I can get… It will be quite a long-term project as I’ve only had basic lathe induction and definitely need some practice

Thanks, Steve

@Ben_Mahon I’d be keen for a piece or two of Olive. Would be cool to make some wooden serving boards. Will definitely chip in for delivery.

Hey Matt, hope you’re good. Just checking in whether you know what you’d like? Any or all of the 3? Ta

Happy to take any bits going tbh I have no project in mind but would like a couple of bits to experiment with on the Lathe or other tools  If there is anything that looks like it could be come a good bowl / key dish I’m keen. So probably the Acacia and Olive?

Hi all,
This will arrive on Friday afternoon, I’ll be there to bring it in and label it up. @woodtechs I don’t suppose one of you is in then (or before) to chat storage? Make sure I’m not causing a headache…

Hi @Ben_Mahon, Did this wood get delivered? Cheers
