We’ve been hard at work upgrading Discourse to the latest version, we hope you like it.
If you see any issues/missing features let us know.
What’s New!
Improved Composer
- It’s now easier to format your posts with new format options, like:
underline
Strikethough
Left Justification
Right Justification
Centre Justification
- Composer now defaults to ‘Discussions (Private)’ category
- The category drop-down has been improved, sorting by sub-category, making it easier to start posting in the correct category
Header Search Bar
The upgraded Discourse has Improved search, which can be accessed via the header search bar - making it easier to find topics or documents.
Tidied up Categories
The categories have been tidied up - unused categories have been removed, duplicate categories merged and categories moved to more suitable areas.
-
Tool Inductions now have its own section - making it easier to find waiting lists and induction sessions
-
Events - now split between Private and Public events
-
Space bookings and Document related categories are hidden - they are accessible elsewhere (Space Bookings via the calendar, Documents - see below)
-
Announcements - new category for Directors, Mods and Techs to make announcements
Better Welcome For Non-Members
With the help of the Welcome Team - Non-Members will now see a welcome Banner in Discourse with links on how to join us, and where to find out about Open Evenings.
Solved Flag
If you have posted a Topic with a question, you can now flag the reply that answers your question with the ‘solved’ tick, making it easier for other members
Improved Reactions
There are now more reactions - not just heart - that you can use to share your thoughts on a topic.
Events
The Events/Calendar process hasn’t changed - but has a new feature - RSVP
When creating an event (note: Only members with Shutter Access can create Space Bookings) - there is now an option for RSVP
You can set the number of attendees, and use the Guest drop-down to create a Guest List of members who can RSVP.
You can say you’re going to an event by clicking the ‘Going’ button at the top of the Calendar entry, and click the ‘x going’ link to view who has RSVPed
Documents
All the Tools Pages, How To and Rules documents can now all be found in the ‘Documents’ section - using the link in the Discourse header.
The Documents section has a dedicated search bar - making it fast and easy to find the document you are looking for.
Table of Contents
You can now add Table of Contents on topic and documents (like on this one!) to make them easier to navigate. To set up -
-
Use Markdown headers in your topic
-
click the cog in the composer and select ‘insert table of contents’
