Arch 2 - Imagining the Space Session 1 - Sunday 13th March 2022 12:00 till 17:00

There are no extracts for the lathe now…… and that is an issue that needs to be addressed

Spindle moulders require extraction , also where do the air scrubbers fit in your plan.

Sorry but I did say a “thought out plan” not just moving boxes around till it fits.

No disrespect meant but this does need to be decided by woodtechs as they have the experience and expertise to know what is required

@asander1 This is an improvement on Marks but definitely not quite right, can you send me a file to rearrange and I’ll pipe it back shortly.

Will do…

Am I still a woodtech?

There are a lot of flaws that I’ve yet to be able to discuss…
Trying to find a lil more time for the space now my workshops a lil more on it’s feet.

That’s fine, but share the full design before you go build it! :hammer:

Don’t be obtuse!

I have also left out the sanding station, (which needs extract) planes, chisels saws, jigs, consumables.

But if you want to be pedantic here is the plan with the sharpening station and sink in place.

Space for 2 lathes :kissing_heart:

I’m not trying to be obtuse - but it’s hard to make layout suggestions it if we don’t know what else is to be in there.

Ok, here is another version, with input from Joe / Jonty…

They agreed we don’t need another sink in the woodshop…

who is they?

tracksaw table has no room around it, morticer has no room to move lengths of timber through it

table saw outfeed not possible. and it means buying another extract

and look at the wall benches/worktops either behind the lathe, table saw or a door …

come on guys put a bit of thought into it !!!

to be honest this should be done with a meeting with woodtechs rather than individual groups having seperate discussions

I agree, can woodtechs all get together and figure out how to lay it out with the cnc in the corner… fair?

Now i understand your agenda!

Yess, Just put the thing in the corner  you will have more room and flexibility for the rest of the tools.

Woodtechs and CNC techs should talk that out, right?

No way table saw can be used in this location. I am confused about the planer/thicknesses as well as how would you cut long timbers on chop saw when router table and spindle are right next to it?
Hope this feedback somehow helps to find something else. Would we consider moving cnc to the messy room or the second room in A2? Seems to me what works for the woodshop doesn’t work for the cnc people and vice versa.

I am open - just moving it back to the corner would be good - or it could be in existing woodshop room, only issue is loading a lot of sheets through clean, but that is ok.

Or could be in the 2nd room in Arch 2…

@tomnewsom suggested it belongs in a corner of the woodshop. Can the woodtechs find a way to make that happen?

And that move is on the basis of the extra rotation of 8x4 sheet to the cnc?

I’ve got no insight from a woodworking POV, but just from a space planning POV, if you have one large unmovable thing that only needs good access from one end, then you put it in a corner with the access end facing the front door. In its current location, it breaks the room up into a C shape, and forces all incoming sheets to take a circituitous route past all the benches.

You don’t have to rotate to go in? You bring it right in, the shift left and back btw. Andy and Kyle have been using it for months now, would be great if the idea was available before woodtools location has been okayed(okayed for the te being…)
