Arch 2 - Imagining the Space Session 1 - Sunday 13th March 2022 12:00 till 17:00

I’m in favour of the Mk 2 drawing. Reasons:

  1. We have more wall area for benches and storage
  2. Having the benches all together is more communal, but also allows these to be pushed together to form a large table.
  3. Equally, they can all be moved to create a large open ‘conference’ space
  4. The bench closest to the Mitre saw can be used as a push table for getting sheets into the CNC.
  5. Maximum amount of natural light can come through from both sides of the arch
  6. The CNC essentially creates another room in the space that could be utilised as something other than lathe location in the future.
  7. Table saw has a larger outfeed area for timber longer than 8’

Just my initial thoughts.

Gotcha - seems there are a lot of different ideas…

Can the @woodtechs and @cnctechs all come in at the same time and ‘imagine the space’ and finalise this together in the next week or so?

I think we can sort this out in a short amount of time in person in Arch 2, rather than going back and forth on Discourse, please tick your availability (check multiple).

My mum has just got coved19 in hospital, so I don’t know about my availability but will show up if in London

Sorry to hear Joe. Hope she fights it off in no time.

Thanks Joe- take care!

Feel for you Joe.

Hope it goes well

I can do the Wednesday, tomorrow definitely, can possibly fit in the Saturday,
After that tied up with a play for two weeks

Ok Thanks Mark! Will see who else can make it when… cheers!

Sorry to hear Joe. All the best

Hi all!

Just had a chat with Joe and Mark- I am not adding anything to this, so it is up to the @woodtechs to agree on what they want to do for a layout and just do it. If you have any input, work with Mark directly, thanks!

I closed the poll and I don’t think we need a big meetup especially as there is no time that stands out as a majority.

Thanks!

This is my part how I see both ARCHS. I focused more on modularity and flexibility of the space, also area allocation. List of tools are endless so there might be missing stuff. Heavy machinery layout was secondary in this exercise as they are of different dimensions. Wished I had time to post it before, I hope it helps!

The following are youtube links for the mobile workbenches construction and blueprints:

MANAGEMENT:
Since SLMS is a big community then we have to think of management systems too.

  1. GENERAL CUTTING LISTS
  2. SLMS INVENTORY
  3. PROCUREMENT SYSTEM
  4. 5S SYSTEM
  5. TOOL RENTAL SYSTEM
  6. MEMBERS CROWDFUNDING
  7. MAINTENANCE SCHEDULING

This is super cool! What software did you use to create it?

Adobe illustrator. Expanded and cleaned the plan drawing from the .pdf file provided here.

@directors is there going to be another meeting of the final plan? How things will work onwards.

Hello, I was wondering if we have a record of the event and suggestions on what will go in the second part of the A2, my interpretation was that possibilities are metal work, ceramics, screen printing, electronics, textiles. So far I haven’t seen any techs except the woodshop ones to make any proposals for movement of their areas.

How do we go forward? Meeting no.2? I’m happy to gather more insight on next Members meeting or naturally on this thread.

I proposed several different layouts back in January:

Steve proposed a layout as well:

We definitely need to sit down and make some decisions or it will become a free for all land grab as soon as tools start moving from Arch 1 Woodshop to Arch 2 Woodshop which is not ideal. How do we proceed?
